​Much thought, planning, and preparation goes into every Firebird litter. Our dogs undergo extensive health testing before they are bred: OFA hips, elbows, patellas, cardiac, eyes examined annually by a veterinary ophthalmologist, and genetic testing. We also prove our dogs in the conformation ring, and we strive to obtain championships on them to prove their worthiness of being bred and carrying on the Firebird name. We work with some of the best reproductive veterinarians and theriogenologists in the country to ensure that our dogs, and puppies, are receiving unrivaled care. Our dogs are our family, and we spare no expense. We work tirelessly to preserve the integrity of the Coton de Tulear breed.

Puppies are born in our bedroom, and we sleep next to the puppies for their first few weeks of their lives to ensure puppies, and Mom, are doing well. We conduct ENS on our puppies during this time, and puppies are weighed twice daily to ensure everyone is meeting growth milestones. Once puppies are old enough and becoming more mobile, they are transferred to their own 'condo' in our living room. This enables them to be in the center of daily household living. We start litterbox training at about 3 weeks old. We work with the puppies to instill a variety of foundational skills, including nail trimming, baths, being blow dried, body handling (including teeth), and crate training. Puppies are introduced to the other dogs in our household, and puppies also have exposure to cats via our exotic longhair cat, Gogo. We work tirelessly to socialize the puppies to novel people, surfaces, objects, and sounds.

Puppies are dewormed several times at age-appropriate intervals. Puppies receive their first vaccination from our veterinarian as well as a certificate of veterinary inspection (CVI) which is required for the sale of all dogs in Wisconsin (and applies to rescues and breeders.) Puppies come microchipped at no additional cost to you. We also send puppies home with 30 days of complimentary pet insurance through Trupanion. Puppies come already registered with AKC. Puppies sold as companions are sold on a no-breeding contract and AKC Limited Registration.

Since our dogs all live in our home, our breeding program is quite small. We may only breed a litter or two a year; some years, we do not breed at all. If you would like to be considered as a home for a Firebird puppy, please submit an application.
